http://www.nashgreen.com/nashstudio/April_2007.html           Before we could pour our final layer of concrete, Green Hammer placed a vapor barrier over the Perlite insulation and gravel was packed on top.  A metal mesh grid was placed on top of the gravel which provides a structure for the radiant floor tubes.  Although it takes longer to prepare for a radiant heating system, it has several advantages over typical heating systems.  Conventional heating systems usually push hot air through ductwork in floors and ceilings.  This creates air pressure differences between the interior and the exterior of the home so when you open an exterior door all the warm air rushes out.  It also has a tendency to create cold spots in the house whereas radiant heating provides an all over warmth.  Ductwork tends to let the heat your furnace produces escape underneath the house so it never gets into your home where it is most needed.  Radiant systems use less energy to warm the slab directly and the heat has nowhere to go but into your home.            Aside from the energy conservation benefits of radiant versus forced air systems, there are other features that set radiant floor heating apart from conventional methods.  Forced air furnaces often decrease humidity in the home so in the winter you are much more likely to have dry skin and mucus membranes.  Since the heat source with radiant is hot water running through tubes in the floor, there is no hot air to lower a home’s humidity in the winter so you are less likely to dry out.  In addition, when ductwork gets dirty, all of the debris such as pollen, pet hair, dander and dirt gets circulated through the home in the air you breathe.  In contrast, radiant does not kick up indoor air pollution so it is a wonderful choice for people who have allergies. http://www.nashgreen.com/nashstudio/April_2007.html#0 7644dc87-fec1-48fc-956b-05f0f3f07ca2 http://www.nashgreen.com/nashstudio/April_2007_files/Media/IMG_4036.jpg?derivative=thumb http://www.nashgreen.com/nashstudio/April_2007_files/Media/IMG_4036.jpg?derivative=micro <div style="padding: 0px;
